چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim: Mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) is the most common malignant neoplasm of the salivary glands with complex histopathologic features and clinical behavior. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinicopathologic significance of p63, Maspin and matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2 expression in MEC. Materials and Methods: In this retrospective study, immunohistochemical staining was performed to detect the expression of p63, Maspin and MMP-2 in 35 cases of MEC. In addition, to detect the presence of myoepithelial differentiation, smooth muscle actin (SMA) staining was performed. Data were analyzed using non-parametric tests. Results: P63 expression, intensity of staining for p63 and MMP-2 total score showed significant correlations with histologic grade (P=0.008, P=0.035 and P=0.003, respectively). The association between p63 expression and MMP-2 total score was significant (P=0.033). P63 positive cases did not express SMA. Conclusion: Findings suggest that p63 and MMP-2 may be useful prognostic indicators in MEC. MEC is devoid of myoepithelial cells.

Expression of caveolin-1, MMP-2 and β-catenin in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and their clinicopathologic significance

In recent years, many studies have reported on role of Caveolin-1 in tumor, but little attention has been paid on its function in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). In this study, we attempt to provide molecular biomarkers for early diagnosis of ESCC through examining the expression of caveolin-1 and the relationship between Caveolin-1 and MMP-2, β-catenin in ESCC. ESCC tissues (110 cas...

Maspin Gene Expression in Invasive Ductal Carcinoma of Breast

Background: The breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer among women, on the other hand absence of myoepithelial cells play a pivotal role in pathogenesis of this cancer. Thus we aimed to investigate the possible abilities of the molecular assay technique to find a relationship between mammary serine protease inhibitor (Maspin) gene expression possibly secreted by my...

Matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) Expression in Non-Small Cell Lung Carcinoma and Its Association with Clinicopathologic Factors

Background & Objective:  Matrix metalloproteinases-9 (MMP-9) is one of the most important enzymes to breakdown extracellular matrix which plays a major role in tumor invasion and metastasis. This study aimed to determine tumor MMP-9 expression in non-small-cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) and whethe...

Prognostic and clinicopathologic significance of SIRT1 expression in hepatocellular carcinoma

The clinical value of SIRT1 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains controversial. This meta-analysis was performed to investigate the prognostic and clinicopathological significance of the histone deacetylase SIRT1 in HCC. Pooled hazard ratios (HRs) for survival outcomes and pooled odds ratios (ORs) for clinical parameters associated with SIRT1 were calculated in nine studies using Review Ma...

Correlation and prognostic significance of MMP-2 and TFPI-2 differential expression in pancreatic carcinoma.

Aberrant expression of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2 and tissue factor pathway inhibitor (TFPI)-2 not only correlate with tumorigenesis, but also with tumor invasion and metastasis. This study aims to investigate the correlation and prognostic significance of MMP-2 and TFPI-2 differential expression in pancreatic carcinoma. Immunohistochemistry was used to evaluate MMP-2 and TFPI-2 expressio...

Clinicopathologic significance of the expression of Snail in hepatocellular carcinoma

BACKGROUND/AIMS E-cadherin is involved in intercellular binding and cellular polarity formation. Snail is a key regulator of the epithelial-mesenchymal transition and is closely associated with tumor invasiveness due to its ability to suppress E-cadherin expression. We investigated the expressions of E-cadherin and Snail in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tissue to determine the clinical signifi...
